The Volunteer Support Program is designed to alleviate isolation for home-bound elderly whom may experience depression, loneliness and despair. Participants will provide companionship to those who may have limited contact with family or friends. Volunteers will be given an opportunity to become involved with several programs within the Volunteer Support Program. They are:
- Computer training - Volunteers will assist clients who have computers to learn more about the computers and troubleshoot problems they might experience with their computers;
- Doula to accompany and comfort - Well-trained volunteers can provide significant emotional and social support, comfort and practical assistance to patients near the end of life;
Doula to Accompany and Comfort is a non-sectarian program of the Shira Ruskay Center of the Jewish Board of Family and Children's Services.
- Animal Therapy - The Good Dog Foundation provides and coordinated therapy dog services for people in healthcare, social services and community organizations.
- Senior Companions - healthy older adults who help other older adults live independently. Senior Companions must be 60 years old, in good health and have limited income. They will receive a tax free stipend, transportation stipend, paid sick and vacations days.
Volunteer will receive orientations, pre-service and on-going monthly trainings and education workshops and yearly recogniton ceremonies. This opportunity is sponsored by: Lifecare Community Services - Homecare Division
