Zoo Guides volunteer at the Central Park Zoo because they love fresh air, people and animals - not necessarily in that order. Zoo Guides provide a face to the zoo for the million local visitors and tourists who come each year. Zoo Guides provide general information to visitors as well as at-exhibit chats and tours of the zoo. It is because of the Zoo Guides' many personal interactions with visitors that the Central Park Zoo recently earned a 70% satisfaction rating from those surveyed.
Zoo Guides attend an orientation and are interviewed prior to acceptance into the Training Program. The Training Program is held on 8 Saturdays from 9 AM - 2:30 PM, usually during the months of February and March each year. After training, those accepted into the Volunteer Program are expected to volunteer at the Zoo one day a week or every other Saturday or Sunday from 9AM - 4PM.
