Community Tax Aid trains volunteers to prepare tax forms (federal, state and local) for low income tax payers. Training for the 2008 tax prep season will be offered at the end of January-beginning of February 2008. After training, volunteers pick a day/eve or place at which to volunteer. Our sites are in all boroughs except S.I. Services are provided from mid-Feb. to Mid-April. We are different from other free tax prep organizations in that our training followed by volunteer tax prep time qualifies for CPE credit for CPA's - a definite benefit for the volunteer. Also, for tax payers we can file out of state and prior year forms and we also have people available year round if needed for follow-up tax info. Many of our clients have been with us for many years. If you are interested in volunteering for the 2008 season, send contact info ( email, home address in case your email changes and you forget to notify us) and we will add you to our contact list. We will get back to you in the fall with training dates and info. Send contact info to CTAJudyRussell@aol.com Thanks for your interest. Anyone who has a bit of experience filling out tax forms and feels comfortable doing them should be able to serve after training. Our volunteers come form all walks of life. Many of our sites are handicapped accessible. This opportunity is sponsored by: Community Tax Aid, Inc.

Overall Experience
I learned so much from the training, made good friends and contacts and felt that I had helped a lot of really good people.

Community Tax Aid offered me an opportunity to feel as if I was really helping people and that my mind was a valuable resource. Through training and practice I have become quite knowledgeable about personal income tax and am constantly learning new things. I really like working with our clients and feel as if I've helped them a lot. CTA offers FREE, extremely competent services and stands behind its clients. I could be working for a "pay for service" place, but would feel bad about having to sell other services to clients who just need to have their tax forms filled out. I enjoy the clients and the long term relationships that I have made with them. I always leave my site feeling that I have done something good for the people I've served. posted by cta volunteer on October 21, 2006 |

Forest Hills Community House Day Care Center
I helped cvolunteer at this center and watched children and learned a lot from them. I love children and I love meeting new people. It's so important to help give something back to a community that has given you so much. posted by gfuller on April 2, 2005 |
