We're seeking individuals to provide our inpatient youth with a one-to-one mentoring relationship with a fully screened, adult volunteer. Mentors can contribute significantly in helping youngster to feel better about themselves. Mentors are kind, concerned adult volunteers who offer youth support, guidance and encouragement. Mentors provide the presence of a positive , caring adult role model. The primary role of the mentor is to develop a positive connection with the youth through planned weekly contact. Included also is the participation with youth at recreation events offered on site at Brooklyn Children's Center. Mentors are supervised by the treatment team and work closely to help build child's self esteem in meeting their treatment goals.
Volunteers must meet with Coordinator of Family Services to discuss areas of interest. All must complete Volunteer Service Application Form and State Clearance register form. Brooklyn Children's center will forward clearance form to the New York State Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment. No applicant can volunteer at this site until they are cleared by New York State central registry. Expect 4 to 6 weeks response time for clearance notification. Once cleared, volunteers receive confidentiality training coordinated by New York State Office of Mental Health. This opportunity is sponsored by: Brooklyn Children's Center
