Teach English to Adult Speakers of Other Languages!
Powered by Truist
Last updated on August 20, 2008

Are you interested in teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages? Join us! Come teach or tutor adults who are learning English at our Lower East Side Immigrant Services Center. Our classes are English-only.

Classes meet twice a week for two-hour sessions. Volunteers can teach one session a week or an entire 2-session class. Class-size is small (15 students or less). Both day and evening classes are available, Mondays-Thursdays.

This work is very rewarding. As you teach, you will see the students progressing and know that you have been instrumental in that. The students are extremely appreciative. You will also have the opportunity to be creative and share your energy and your personality in class.

Applicants should enjoy working with people, be patient, and speak English clearly. No profession or previous teaching experience necessary. Applicants do not need to be able to speak a second language.

Volunteers receive a brief personal training of about 1 hour or more if needed. All volunteers are encouraged to attend a teacher sharing meeting and/or methods workshop once every 3 months. We believe that the best teachers are the ones who are always learning.

Volunteers must be prompt, responsible and comfortable working autonomously.

Volunteers must be able to walk up a short flight of stairs.
