Be one of 1,500 volunteers for the Sunday, May 4th Commerce Bank Five Boro Bike Tour. Welcome and assist 30,000 cyclists on their 42-mile Tour through New York City by helping at one of five rest areas, the start or finish lines. Volunteers pass out drinks and snacks, provide information, help with traffic flow at various locations, set up, break down and clean up rest areas. Volunteer opportunities are available in all five boroughs with various shifts depending on location. Marshals (volunteers on bicycles) are also needed along the Tour route to assist cyclists and direct traffic flow. We will provide a great t-shirt and cap, lunch is on us and you can greet 30,000 cyclists as our friendly representative! Volunteers should enjoy working with people, be friendly and outgoing, willing to be flexible and work where and when needed as needs vary throughout the day, and should be able to follow instructions from supervisors and managers. Punctuality is crucial as we depend on all our volunteers to be on time. Minimum age is 16 years and we particularly need strong able-bodied men and women who can help with setting up and breaking down the various rest areas (putting up tables, chairs, signs, unloading supplies, food and drink products, etc.)Since our volunteers are our "public relations" people, they should be friendly, happy and pleasant to our participating cyclists. Volunteers do not ride bicycles unless they sign up to volunteer as marshals along the route; in that instance, they are assigned a captain to report to, and they work with their team leader as a unit on their bicycles at a designated point along the route. Marshals should be experienced cyclists, able to fix a flat tire, comfortable with directing people and working in crowded conditions at times. A pleasant personality is a must! |
